Cancer of Prostate

This is a disease most often diagnosed in men aged 65 and over, though men as young as 40 have been found to have it too. If detected early there can be total prostate cancer cure. If not there can be successful treatment such that a patient can continue with their life quite comfortably.

Cancer of prostate is normally a slow growth cancer and through modern medical means can be managed such that one having it need not die from it. In fact many men have the disease and die from other causes altogether.

The early stages of the disease are the easiest to treat. As long as the tumour has not spread outside of the gland, the doctor may opt to use watchful waiting as the method of treatment. This just means close monitoring and testing to make sure that the tumour stays small and does not get out of control. The method is effective and can be supplemented by use of hormones to keep testosterone levels down. Testosterone is the male sexual hormone whose production does stimulate the multiplication of cancer cells.

Prostate cancer surgery or radical prostatectomy is the most effective prostate cancer cure for the tumor as long as it is confined to the gland. This involves the total removal of the the gland and adjacent lymph nodes, and that should normally deal with the offending matter permanently.

The other form of treatment for tumors localized to the prostate is the seed implant method called Brachytherapy Prostate treatment. Here radioactive seeds are placed into the gland and release radiation over several weeks and so kill off the offending cells.This method has a recurrence- free survival rate of 77% to 90%.

If the cancer has spread beyond the gland or has recurred after treatment, then External Radiation Beam Therapy may be a good option. If used with other forms of therapy this method can be 85% successful.

There really is no one hard and fast prostate cancer cure that suits  all patients. The choice is individual and consultations with the doctor or even with several doctors is advisable to arrive at the right decision for you.
