Signs Prostate Cancer…. What Are They?

The importance of knowing the signs prostate cancer exhibit  is that it points to the need for testing, first to confirm whether the disease is truly present and secondly to enable timely and appropriate treatment of prostate cancer depending on what the diagnosis is.

This disease occurs in older men so if in the age bracket of 45- 50 years and above it is a needful that you be on the look-out for tell-tale symptoms that may show you it is time for that check-up. This could make the difference between successful treatment in early stages and the long treatment procedures that go with management of  prostate cancer advanced stage.

The first signs indicating that there could be a problem are urinary and erectile difficulties. This is due to the enlargement of the gland which causes pressure on the bladder. Resultant conditions will include:
– the urge to urinate frequently especially at night
– weakened flow of urine
– pain during urination
– difficulty in starting urination
– difficulty in holding back urination
– erectile dysfunction
– blood in the urine or in the semen

– loss of weight
– pain in the hips and lower back
– swelling in the legs.

However these symptoms do not always indicate the presence of cancer. An enlarged gland could be the result of inflammation or even urinary infection. In this case the tumors are benign (non-cancerous) and fairly easy to treat. Once that possibility has been eliminated then the doctor will pronounce the need for further testing to establish that the cells are indeed malignant ( cancerous ) and how far advanced they are.

In almost all men, the prostate gland enlarges as they grow older and may cause indications of signs prostate cancer. If these indications show up see the doctor. Establish the true status of your condition.
