What is Prostate Cancer?

To answer the question what is prostate cancer, let us simply say that it is the malignant growth of cells found in the prostate gland. The prostate gland is susceptible to the disease when malignant cells form in its tissues, and here, malignant means cancerous.

In the initial stages the tumor (growth) can remain confined to the prostate for many years producing little or no symptoms even with medical examination. Many men will have the disease and not know it, yet with frequent testing prostate cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancer in the world.
Then the cancer in its secondary stage will spread to the surrounding tissues (lymph nodes) and finally in its advanced stages it will spared even farther to other body areas, the bones, lungs and liver in which case it is said to metastasise.

After lung cancer it is the most common cancer in American men and the second leading cause of death from cancer. Health of the prostate is therefore crucial. If you are not taking care of the prostate and having regular checks, you may not actually know when a problem arises. For prostate health it is also very important to be on a diet that is high in anti-oxidants and low in fats and cholesterol content.

The prostate gland is found only in men. It contains cells that produce the fluid that protects and nourishes the sperm.
This disease is a killer if not detected in the early stages, on the other hand it can be cured if detected in good time. It is very important to remember that often there are no prostate symptoms felt until the cancer has spared into other parts of the body outside of the prostate. Often there is no pain to show its presence, and when there is, the cancer is by then pretty advanced.

It is generally recommended that on turning age 40 all men should undergo annual testing to help in early detection of the disease. Don’t be embarrassed about going for testing, you want to do all that you need to do to avoid getting cancer of prostate, so don’t be negligent.

In an answer then to what is prostate cancer? It is when cancer is found to be present in the gland cells. All prostate cancer begins in the gland.
